We loved the local IPA on tap from a Mexican craft brewery, and the menu blends inventive street food with bold flavors. 4. Pizza e Core
A Taste of Italy on Calle 47
Pizza e Core is our go-to for authentic Italian pizza and notably tasty salads in Mérida. This cozy pizzeria brings the heart of Italy to Centro. On our last visit, we arrived just as a group of Italians –friends of the owner–showed up, filling the space with laughter, wine, loud chatter and animated hand gestures. It was exactly what I hoped for in an Italian dining experience!
🌟What’s got us hooked? The awesome authentic pizza dough and tomato sauce–original recipe from Valentino’s grandmother and the sign that says “no pineapple and no worcestershire sauce served with the pizza” lol.
Pizza e Core sources high-quality cheeses and ingredients from the north of Mexico, crafting dishes from family recipes and his own inspired creations. Seating includes a street-level dining area and a comfy air-conditioned upstairs room. Our favorite dishes include Bruschetta with roasted eggplant, Insalata Italiana with mozzarella, anchovies, and roasted onion, Baldraca pizza with smoked provolone and artichoke hearts and a of course a shot of limoncello to finish

When you need a burger fix in Mérida, Flamante is the first name that comes to mind. Tucked along Calle 47, this funky, art-filled burger joint delivers serious flavor with a side of community spirit. The owner, Eduardo, welcomes everyone like family, and the space—decked out with local murals and silent movies playing on the wall—feels cool, cozy, and uniquely local.
🌟 Crave meter: Through the roof. This is where you go when only a burger—and maybe a shake—will do.
The menu goes way beyond your average burger shack. Flamante is known for its juicy classics, but the chefs are always experimenting. On our recent visit, we tried the hyped-up Flamante Bacon Sandwich (BLT) with avocado and chipotle aioli—totally lives up to the buzz. We also devoured the Space Balls (crispy cheese-jalapeño-bacon bites), a vegan mushroom and beet burger with blue cheese, and their sweet potato & yuca fries. Oh, and of course, a classic cheeseburger that never misses.

Flavors from Oaxaca
If you’re craving the rich, earthy flavors of Oaxaca, Sandunga Cocina Oaxaqueña on Calle 47 is a must. This spot quickly became one of our favorites—not just for the food, but for the warm, welcoming vibe that makes you want to stay a little longer. From the colorful decor to the comforting aromas of roasted chiles and mole, it’s like stepping into a little corner of Oaxaca right here in Mérida.
🌟What’s got us hooked? The traditional tortilla folded and soaked in chile de agua molcajete sauce, topped with fresh cheese from San Pablo Huixtepec–omg to die for and EVERY dessert but espcially the dehydrated meringue, pineapple compote with pennyroyal, dried fruit cookie and basil cream. The chef is amazing.
We love starting with memelas or tlayudas, and always make room for the mole negro, a deep, complex sauce that hits every note. Don’t skip the chapulines (yes, grasshoppers!) or the perfectly paired mezcal cocktails. Everything is made with love and authenticity, and you can taste it in every bite.
